Hector Cardenas
International DJ, innovative producer, founder and front man of one of the world's most legendary party organizations: FunkyTekno Tribe (FTT) and Organic. -DJ Hector Cardenas has emerged as a pioneering force in the house music scene and has continued to be instrumental in the proliferation of dance music on a global scale. Hector Cardenas' versitility as a DJ is second to none, applying his own unique and highly sophisticated stlye to all aspects of dance, ranging from future house and funky tekno to hip-house mash-ups and jazzy grooves. Starting out as a club DJ in 1989, Hector eventually joined forces with founding co-partners Kevon Banks and Jerry Sladewski in 1992 to form FTT just as the burgeoning underground rave scene was exploding along California's sunny shores. Firmly establishing himself as an FTT resident DJ, Hector has played at some of the worlds hottest clubs and has shared the stage with many of the world's premier electronic music artists such as DJ Sneak, Junior Sanchez, Mark Farina, DJ Dan, Daft Punk and The Basement Jaxx to name a few. Together, Mikey and Gelly both launched the self-coined "HAWT Movement" in February of 2006 in Los Angeles, California. Best friends united by their relentless passion for music, they set out to change the way that people looked at house music, parties, and just having fun in general. "At first we just wanted to start a record label in order to showcase our own music, meanwhile having the opportunity to sign our favorite artists that we admire", says Mikey. "Along with that came the party, and that's what really put us on the map and opened up doors to gradually build relationships that will forever change our lives".

In May of 2006, HAWT Afterhours was born. On every 1st and 3rd Friday since the inception, HAWT's underground parties have not only showcased the DJ talent of various quality acts from all over the world, such as Inland Knights, Justin Long, Johnny Fiasco and many more, but they have also displayed the talent of so many of the great DJ's in the local scene. "We always looked back to the beginnning, before we ever had a gig and knew that this was an important step, something that people needed and appreciated", says Gelly. "Overall, the main focus has always been on bringing back that old school house vibe at parties, bringing friends together with music, and just breaking boundaries and having FUN", according to Mikey. HAWT also stands for "Having A Wonderful Time", and they have done just that with the help of Eddie Barajas, Mike Magana, and many more along the way.

Keep an eye out for original music and remixes by EASILY INFLUENCED, which has been getting played by many world class acts such as Derrick Carter, Justin Long, Phil Weeks, DJ Mes, Natural Rhythm, Ricardo Rae, etc. "We think our versatility will surprise people. Jack Monforte
In the beginning there was Jack...or so the story goes.
Jack "Freedom" Monforte has been spinning for over two decades now.
An underground fixture since the late eighties, he joined forces with two other promoters
in the early nineties to create Sweet Sundays.
Shortly thereafter he moved to Alaska, where he saw an opportunity to bring the underground techno scene to virgin territory, today Jack is considered one of the pioneers of the Alaskan electronic scene.
Moving back to Los Angeles in the mid nineties saw Jack earn a residency at
Club Diva where he opened up for Richard Vission and live acts like,
Rozalla, Donna Blakely, Alyus, Bad Boy Bill,etc...
In the early part of 2001 Jack along with partner K.C. Santana created Soulplanet Sessions.
a place where musicians,Djs and dancers could come together and create magic.
Soulplanet Sessions has hosted the likes of Marlon D,Master Kev, Tony Powell, Wayne Lyons and numerous other DJs.
Apart from being a producer/ DJ, his other passion is Graffiti art and photography.
Jack's appearances have included...Dirty Dirty House Club, The Clinic, Faith after-hours, Inspiration, Therapy (FTWK), Movin, Union Square Lounge (NYC), The End Up (San Francisco) and countless one offs.

You read that right--"Goodbye/Bon Voyage."

This coming week will contain a HUGE milestone for me--I'm leaving LA! Not only am I leaving Los Angeles (I know that's a big deal in and of itself) I'm leaving the COUNTRY! Unlike previous trips where I was gone for a number of weeks, the next time I return to Los Angeles I will be a *visiting EX-PATRIOT* of the United States of America! A long-time desire of mine has finally manifested into reality--I'm gonna be living in Europe!

In honor of that, I'll be playing TWO farewell gigs! The first will be at my residency for the last 7 years--Something Else! Monday June 25 @ The Brig (1515 Abbot Kinney Bl. Venice 90291 (310) 399-7537 thebrig.com ) One of my former partners, Chaka, has spoken to the owner so he and ToneArm will be taking the reins after my departure (SO GO SUPPORT THEM!!)

Dear friends that play records:
Gabriel and I inherited over 1000 records since a friend of ours is not in the position to be paying storage for them or to consider having them shipped across the world to where he is now living, Scotland. Some of you know the one and only Aljay! Well, he collected these records from all over the world starting in the early 90’s until he left the U.S. in 2002, most of which he accumulated in the late 90’s in San Francisco while working for Groovetech Radio. So there is a lot of that period/style in the collection.

He was not able to keep up with the storage unit fees so Gabriel and I covered it for while and ended up quite a bit of pocket. Our goal is to make back the over $1000 USD we spent, by the end of April. We hope you can help us and find some musical treats!

Please email me to set-up at time for you to come in. I work out of the house so I am here most every day all day next week. There really are some gems in the collection so please come take advantage while helping us out too. J We have one turn-table, great if you can bring headphones.

As well as being resident DJ at Trigger and DJ’ing all over the world, he has twice attended the Miami Winter Music Conference with the Fuel Records crew and the infamous Fuel sound system cars, and toured the States alongside Tipper. In 2003 Neil formed Trigger Recordings to allow a greater audience to be part of the project, beginning with the renowned ‘Holographic Bassforms’ CD and now approaching its 6th vinyl release.

This New Year's Eve, San Francisco and LA based event promoters, ANON SALON are expanding on the long running success of their legendary SEA OF DREAMS New Year's Eve spectacle by raising the bar with this year’s CIRK-O-SIX, to be held at the historic Los Angeles Theater. This year’s burlesque theme combines the party with ongoing theater performances in the famed downtown theatre.

The Los Angeles Theatre was once considered one of the four or five finest theatres in the world and the event will raise the flag of the new Renaissance of downtown Los Angeles and call upon the Golden Era of LA’s Downtown Theatre District where vaudeville and burlesque used to fill its resplendent theatre houses. Anon Salon will bring the history alive with today’s most cutting edge, avant garde performance and burlesque troupes performing in this breathtaking theater with a surrounding labyrinth of party rooms containing Anon’s live and DJ musical favorites.

The theatre built in 1931 in the French baroque style of Louis XIV, was a virtual Hollywood cathedral. Famous for its huge crystal fountain in the lobby, not an inch of the interior was left undecorated from the elegant stage curtains and ornate balcony to the intricately-carved ceiling of its lobby. When the Los Angeles Theatre was about to go under during the Depression, Charlie Chaplin paid an exorbitant amount of money to keep the posh 1,967-seat theater afloat, so that he could have the grand premiere of his masterpiece "City Lights" there. When downtown LA was abandoned for other new neighborhoods and nightlife, the Los Angeles Theatre closed and had been sitting idle, except for occasional film shoots.

Cirk-O-Six will then merge this experience with its audience base of costumed revelers to create a unique and participatory evening of entertainment.

Additionally, there is a full art gallery space attached to one of the downstairs ballrooms that will house a large art exhibit of cirque and burlesque themed works curated by Mike Russek, co-founder of Transport Art Gallery and founder of the Six Degrees Art Festival.

Lighting and an interactive environment will also be created by Los Angeles event and décor wizards, The Do Labs.

HISTORY OF ANON SALON

ANON SALON, over the course of its 15-year existence, has helped redefine West Coast event production by producing hundreds of unique theme parties, theater festivals, art shows and even street fairs for Burning Man fans in both San Francisco and Los Angeles. The company was born out of San Francisco’s alternative art and performance scene of the 1980’s. From the beginning, they helped shape an ever-growing community of multi-media artists and event producers into a network of non-commercial, unadvertised one-off events and large public gatherings. Unlike conventional concert, club or theatrical events, these one-off gatherings were specialized one-of-a-kind theme party/events. Production laden and technologically cutting edge, they included not only music, but also performance artists, installation, lighting and video artists, theatrics and unique décor, that quickly began to attract an audience that brought their own ideas to the mix. Besides ANON SALON, their endeavors include the GlasHaus parties of the mid-1980's, Icon Byte Bar and Grill (the first Internet bar and cafe in SF), the award-winning Climate Theater, the world famous Solo Mio performance festival. More recently, Joegh has co-created and co-produced San Francisco-based Burning Man Festival parties such as Flambé Lounge and the Decompression Heat the Street Faire.

In the early 1990's, they joined forces with then actor/director MARK PETRAKIS, known as “Spoonman” (from his popular alternative vaudeville revues called “COBRA LOUNGE”). An early web developer, already a part of the burgeoning technology scene, Petrakis was also responsible for Telecircus.com, a 1994 San Francisco arts community website that provided the first web presence for Burning Man, the Residents, Clubfoot Orchestra and many others.

Artist, event producer and social provocateur, MARK BAVA from the Monterey and San Francisco Bay Area entered the mix further bringing together audiences from communities from Humboldt to San Diego. Bava is also one of the founders of the LA Burning Man LaDecom Street Fair, Oracle Milleneum and the Blue Bongo nightclub in the Artist District of Downtown Los Angeles.

LA partner and co-producer, Stephen Samojeden is an east coast transplant who got his start in event productions in Colorado in the early Nineties. Working with friends he helped create Sol Productions, which grew to be one of the largest event production companies in the state. More recently he has helped create dozens of alternative art events in the Santa Barbara, Ventura and Los Angeles areas, including the yearly Los Angeles Burning Man Decompression Street Fairs.

Since its debut on NYE 2000, their SEA OF DREAMS event has been known as the must-see sleeper event for the in-the-know “cultural creatives”, attracting over 3,000 attendees each year to the sold out San Francisco events and last year’s LA event.

This New Year’s Eve, the ANON team will once again combine their talents and experience in the raising of Cirk-O-Six.

Hello Beautiful Peeps, Bellydancers, Art Mavens, Fashionistas and Delirious Denizens of the Underground Dance Scene

We have a delicious Tribal-Funky Freakfest to offer you this Saturday night…It’s an art and dance party that will leave you grateful that ya mama gave you an admission ticket to life.

For years, David Starfire and I have been DJing some sweet and crazy events (mostly in the Bay Area) where Breakbeats merge with World Dance Beatz. We have been wanting to create more of these Ethno Tribal Dance events here for our Southern California Dance Community.

Shapeshifters is the first such collaboration.

At ShapeShifters there will be an indoor room devoted to Funky Breaks with local legends Patricio, Ooah, David and Christian. Then outside, on the patio, the music will be devoted to delicious groovy Breaks and Tribal Beatz with strong flavas of India, Arabia and Africa.

If you love to Belly Dance or if you love Tribal Drums and Rhythms, you will want to visit the patio! Joining me there on the World Dance Beatz Crew will be Dandelion, Imagika and Tamer.

Dandelion has DJed across much of India. DJ Imagika is a belly dancer herself. Tamer's family is from Egypt, so he knows how to support you in the shimmy and shake. I have DJed Ethno Tribal dance sets across the country for crowds of over a thousand dancers (see my tribe photo album for the fun dance pixs). So we are prepared to dish it out for ya!

At 11:00 on the patio, I will be playing a set that will be begin BellydanceFunkySensual and will build to rock your sexy asses with bootie slammin Tribal Breaks and Beatz!

Out of respect for the neighborhood, we will have to chill out the music on the patio at about 1:00 AM. --- SO IF YOU WANT TO EXPERIENCE OUR EROTIC EXOTIC PATIO DANCE SCENE, PLEASE ARRIVE EARLY.

The artists reception begins at 6:00. Come before 10:00 pm and you save $5.
